Dr. Erick Mears, Dipl., ACVIM

Dr. Erick Mears is one of only two doctors who travel around the country to treat cats for hyperthyroidism.  He is the only such doctor, who is board certified in Internal Medicine.  Dr. Mears has treated more than 2,000 patients with Radioiodine I-131 and has been treating hyperthyroid cats since 1993.  He received his Bachelors of Science from Stanford University in 1988.  He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992.  He completed his post-DVM education at the University of Tennessee with small animal internship, internal medicine residency and Associate Professor in 1997.  Dr. Mears is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.  He is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.  On a more personal note, Dr. Mears was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and treated with radioactive iodine in June 2000.  He is happily married to his wife Deborah and enjoys his dog, Blu, and his cat, Bosco.

Dr. John R. Reed, MS, DVM

Dr. Reed graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1977.  He did an internship (77-78) at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Washington Sate University.  He then completed his cardiology residency at UC Davis from 1978 through 1980.  After his residency, he went into private practice with the Sacramento Animal Medical Group which is now owned by VCA.  He became a Diplomate in the ACVIM in 1982.  Dr. Reed has authored dozens of scientific publications and textbook chapters.  Dr. Reed has been associated with I-Cat since 2003.

Amie Marmer, RVT

Amie received her veterinary technician degree from University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College in 1997.  After graduation she began working in emergency medicine focusing on critical care.  She has been working at the Cincinnati Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE) Center for 6 years and recently has moved from the emergency medicine service to the surgery service.  Amie started working with I-CAT and Dr. Mears when they joined the CARE center in 2004.

Jamie Blanchet, LVT

Jamie received her Associates degree in applied sciences form Northern Virginia Community College in 1997.  She passed her veterinary technician exam that same year.  After graduation she worked at a referral/emergency hospital in Northern Virgina and this is where she began caring for hyperthyroid cats.  Sunshine and warmer weather brought Jamie south to Tampa, Florida and Florida Veterinary Specialists.  Currently, Jamie works as Dr. Mears’ internal medicine and I-131 technician.  She is also an emergency services supervisor and is working towards her veterinary technician specialty certification in internal medicine. 


John Hernandez, VT

John has been a veterinary technician for six years but has been with Miami Veterinary Specialists for four.  He was promoted to head technician three years ago and joined the I-CAT team last year.
